Our campus libraries take a range of local newspapers, current issues are on display and back issues kept for a short period.  Use Jisc FE Custom Newspapers for access to national titles online.

Staff from our teaching departments often hand in professional journals for use in the Glenrothes Library, this includes Architects’ Journal and Building.

Emerald	mainly Business and Management journals with a small collection covering the Built Environment.  If you are accessing from outside the College use this link.
InfoTrac – Gale Databases	provides access to full text articles from a wide range of Journal titles including Architecture and Construction through the General OneFile database.  Try Jisc FE Custom News for newspaper articles.
Jisc Journal Archives	a collection of older journal articles including those of the Institution of Civil Engineers.  Titles relevant to Architecture and Construction are included in this collection.
AJ – Architects Journal	to access the full journal you will need to take out a subscription, however, the website contains a number of interesting and informative news articles.
CIAT – Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists	you can read the AT magazine here online.  Select ‘Media’ and then AT Magazine from the menu options.

Architectus	If you are interested in contemporary architecture, design and construction you will find this collection of high resolution original concept designs, drawings and other primary sourced materials both interesting and useful.

These open educational resources are provided under creative commons, attributable, non-commercial, share alike licence.

Google Earth	Try homing in on your street…..
RIBAPix	Database of images from the British Architectural Library.  These low resolution images can be downloaded free of charge for personal or teaching purposes.

There are a number of organisations supporting architects that have a wealth of information you can use, please note that some have information that is only available to members or if you register.

AECB – Association of Environment Conscious Building	some of these documents are available for non members.
BRE – Building Research Establishment
BREAM – BRE Environmental Assessment Method	includes a number of interesting case studies.
CIAT – Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists	student membership if free whist you are on your course.  Read the AT Magazine online!
RIBA – Royal Institute of British Architects	take a look at the sustainability hub.  Also provides links to regional and international organisations including RIAS (Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland).
UK Green Building Council

Historic Scotland	includes a number of useful free publications.  You may be interested in their listed buildings search facility
IHBC – Institute of Historic Building Conservation	professional organisation for building conservation practitioners
RCAHMS – Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland	try searching ‘Canmore’, this is the window into the RCAHMS database. It brings together the results of the survey and collections material into one place and combines location information, site details and images on more than 300,000 archaeological, architectural, maritime and industrial sites throughout Scotland.
Scottish Historic Buildings Trust	take a look at the information on the Law’s Close, Kirkcaldy project
SPAB – Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings	their technical Q&As are particularly interesting, these can be found from the Advice option on the menu at the top of the screen

We have subscribed to a range of eResources that support Architecture and also Construction/Built Environment courses.  These are all licenced for educational use and are perfect for including in your reports and assessments. 

Access is via Shibboleth, sometimes known as the UK Federation or Federated Access, using your full College login and password.

You are permitted to use these resources for study and research during your course at the College.  You must not pass these details to anyone else to allow them to use these services.

Digimap for Colleges	Digimap for Colleges provides easy access to a range of up-to-date Ordnance Survey digital mapping for Great Britain that can be used for educational purposes.  You can access detailed maps showing building outlines, street level maps, road atlas style maps etc.Please Note.  This resource is only available on PCs in College.
Credo	A great resource for checking background information, you will find a wide range of reference books, dictionaries and encyclopaedias here including the Dictionary of Architecture and Construction.
InfoTrac – Gale Databases	Gale Databases includes General Onefile InfoTrac, a collection of journal and magazine articles on a wide range of topics, and Jisc FE Custom News that provides access to articles from numerous newspapers including some you will be familiar with such as the Scotsman, Herald, Independent and Times.
Scran	Around 370,000 images, movies and sound that you can use for educational purposes. This database includes a number of images of buildings of architectural interest.
Jisc MediaHub	Another great collection of images, sound and movie files for you to use.
